In the world of heavy-duty transportation and rapid transit, the integrity of the rail joint is the single most critical factor for safety and operational efficiency. Rail Joint Welding for Track Repair has evolved from simple mechanical bolting to sophisticated aluminothermic and flash-butt welding techniques. As global railway networks expand to accommodate higher speeds and heavier axle loads, the demand for seamless, durable rail connections has never been greater.
Today, the industry focuses on Continuous Welded Rail (CWR), which eliminates the traditional "click-clack" noise of joints and significantly reduces maintenance costs. However, when cracks or wear occur, specialized repair welding becomes necessary. RMTS stands at the forefront of this industry, providing high-precision thermit welding materials that ensure the repaired joint is as strong as the original rail steel.
Mainlines carry the bulk of national freight and passenger traffic. Welding here must withstand extreme dynamic stresses and weather variations. Thermit welding is the preferred method for on-site repairs due to its portability and lack of requirement for heavy external power sources.
Seaports utilize heavy-duty crane rails that support massive ship-to-shore cranes. These rails experience immense static pressure. Our specialized welding kits for crane rails are designed to handle the unique profiles and steel compositions found in maritime environments.
Metros require frequent maintenance within narrow time windows. The speed of the "One Shot Crucible" technology allows maintenance teams to complete welds during short nightly shutdowns, ensuring the city keeps moving the next morning.
HSR demands the highest level of geometric precision. Even a 1mm deviation can cause significant vibration at 300km/h. RMTS provides precision grinding and shearing machines to ensure the finished weld meets ultra-tight tolerances.
Our products are designed to meet the highest industry standards, ensuring durability and performance in various applications. We understand that successful welding projects require not only high-quality products but also expertise and knowledge. That’s why we offer comprehensive on-site training programs to help our clients master the thermit welding process, enabling them to achieve optimal results and build a strong reputation in their respective fields.
Additionally, our experienced team provides project welding instruction services, offering hands-on guidance and support to ensure seamless execution, no matter where the project is located.
Our main markets are in areas such as railway main lines, seaport crane rails, subways, trams, and high-speed railways. Aluminothermic welding plays a crucial role in these fields. No matter the scenario, RMTS welding technology, with its excellent performance, serves as a powerful support for promoting industry development and ensuring operational safety.
RMTS have a highly skilled R&D team that works tirelessly to ensure that we produce thermit welding materials that meet the specific needs of each type of rail. We collaborate with research institutions, universities, and industry experts in China to strengthen our capabilities in thermit welding technologies.
Efficiency & Precision
Durability & Sustainability
Step 1: Preparation - Ensure the rail ends to be welded are clean, free from rust, and properly aligned. The gap size (space between two rails to be welded) shall be 26±2mm.
Step 2: Preheating - Using specialized burners to reach the required temperature, ensuring the rail ends are ready to fuse with the molten thermit steel.
Step 3: Pouring - The thermit reaction is initiated in the crucible. Once complete, the molten steel is tapped into the sand mould.
Step 4: Finishing - After cooling, the excess steel is removed with a rail shearing machine, and the joint is ground to a smooth profile using a grinding machine.
Thermit welding materials will be failed with water. All welding materials should be kept away from any moisture in storage, as well as in the welding process. Thermit welding requires careful handling and storage of its materials to ensure safety and optimal performance.
Consumables Calculation: For a 10km project using 12.5m rails:
10000 / 12.5 × 2 = 1600 sets of consumables.
The future of Rail Joint Welding for Track Repair is moving towards increased automation and digital monitoring. Emerging trends include:
Robotic systems are being developed to perform the precision grinding required after a thermit weld, reducing human error and increasing the lifespan of the rail joint.
Sensors integrated into the welding process can now record temperatures and reaction times in real-time, providing a digital "birth certificate" for every weld performed on the track.
Development of low-emission thermit portions and recyclable sand moulds is becoming a priority for sustainable railway infrastructure projects worldwide.
