Precision-engineered tools designed to meet the rigorous safety and performance standards of the Austrian railway network.
Adapting advanced rail technologies to one of Europe's most challenging and sophisticated transport networks.
Austria stands at the geographical and logistical heart of Europe, serving as a vital transit corridor connecting East to West and North to South. Managed primarily by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), the national rail network is renowned for its high electrification rate, punctuality, and pioneering alpine engineering. Operating in mountainous terrains requires robust, weather-resistant, and high-precision rail maintenance equipment. Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) systems are standard across Austrian mainlines to ensure smooth passenger transit and heavy freight capacity through demanding routes like the Semmering Pass, the Brenner Pass, and the newly developed Koralm Railway.
The industrial landscape in Austria demands uncompromising quality in rail equipment manufacturing. With strict safety regulations governed by the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) and alignment with European standards (EN), rail operators require welding and maintenance solutions that can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations—from freezing Alpine winters to hot summers. RMTS is positioned to support these demanding environments, delivering high-performance thermit welding consumables and advanced track maintenance machinery that ensure long-term structural integrity and minimize track downtime.
With massive projects like the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) and Semmering Base Tunnel under construction, high-precision rail cutting, drilling, and thermit welding are critical. Deep underground environments demand low-emission, highly reliable tools that function perfectly under confined space constraints.

Exploring the technological shift towards green energy, digitalization, and high-speed rail networks.
The Austrian rail sector is undergoing rapid modernization, fueled by the European Green Deal and the national goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. This shift translates into several critical trends impacting rail equipment manufacturing and maintenance services:
How RMTS solutions solve real-world engineering challenges across different Austrian landscapes.
Our comprehensive line of rail equipment and thermit welding consumables is designed to perform in diverse Austrian environments:
High altitude and steep gradients subject rails to extreme lateral forces. Using our High-Capacity Bidirectional Rail Joint Adjusters and precise shearing tools ensures that rails are tensioned and welded perfectly, preventing buckle or pull-apart failures during seasonal temperature swings.
Vienna boasts one of the largest tram networks in the world. Maintenance in dense urban areas requires quiet, precise tools. Our Electric Rail Grinding Machines allow transit authorities to restore rail profiles overnight with minimal noise disturbance to surrounding residents.
Freight lines transporting steel, timber, and automotive parts across Austria require rails that can support high axle loads. Our long-life crucible thermit welding solutions create highly durable joints that withstand continuous heavy-haul stress.
In long tunnels, ventilation is limited, making traditional combustion engines hazardous due to exhaust fumes. RMTS's electric-powered rail cutting and drilling machines provide clean, efficient alternatives for tunnel maintenance crews.

Engineered for multiple pours. Ideal for large-scale construction sites and track replacement programs where multiple welds are executed in sequence, lowering the cost per weld.
View MoreThermit portion, sand mold, luting sand, and ignitor are the main consumables for aluminothermic welding. Each weld requires exactly one set of consumables (1 weld = 1 set of consumables).
For a 10km track construction project using standard 12.5m rails:
Calculation Formula: (10,000 meters / 12.5 meters) × 2 rails = 1,600 sets of consumables.
OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
RMTS is a passionate and progressive aluminothermic welding manufacturing company dedicated to long-term global infrastructure support.
Aluminum thermite welding, also known as aluminothermic welding, is a specialized technique utilizing an exothermic chemical reaction to generate intense heat for joining steel rails. Invented over a century ago, it remains the gold standard for creating continuous, gap-free rail joints on mainlines, tramways, and crane runways worldwide.
Preparation (Step 1): Ensure the rail ends to be welded are completely clean, free from rust, grease, and moisture, and properly aligned. The standard gap size between the two rails to be welded must be maintained at 26±2mm to ensure complete penetration of the molten steel.
Thermit welding materials will fail if exposed to water. All welding portions, sand molds, and luting sand must be kept away from moisture in storage as well as during the welding process to prevent steam explosions and defects like porosity in the weld joint.
Thermit welding requires careful handling and dry storage of materials to ensure safety and optimal performance. Store all portions and molds in a dry, ventilated warehouse, elevated off the ground to prevent moisture absorption from floors.
We offer a wide range of thermit welding materials, including complete welding kits, sand molds, one-shot and long-life crucibles, luting sand, and ignitors, ensuring consistent quality, high structural strength, and reliable track performance.
Our technical team provides comprehensive on-site training and project supervision. We guide track maintenance crews through alignment, preheating, pouring, and shearing to ensure every joint meets safety standards.
Providing reliable support across key infrastructure projects, ensuring operational safety and efficiency.
