Engineered for Class I freight railroads and rapid transit systems across North America.
How advanced aluminothermic welding meets the demands of North American heavy-haul and passenger corridors.
The United States railway network represents the backbone of North American logistics, spanning over 140,000 miles of track operated by Class I railroads such as Union Pacific, BNSF, CSX, and Norfolk Southern, alongside numerous short-line and regional operators. Under heavy axle loads that frequently exceed 36 tons per axle, track joints are subjected to extreme mechanical stresses. Bolted joints are increasingly replaced with Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) to minimize track maintenance cycles, prevent joint batter, and reduce the risk of derailments caused by rail head defects.
In this demanding ecosystem, field-welding technology is critical. Thermit welding (aluminothermic welding) remains the primary method for joining rails in situ, particularly during maintenance, track renewals, and emergency repairs. As the US market continues to modernize, there is a growing demand for high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective imports of thermit welding consumables and machinery from specialized manufacturers in China. China railway maintenance welding manufacturers and factories are stepping up to meet these needs, offering solutions that align with the stringent standards set by the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).
Moreover, the expansion of high-speed passenger corridors, such as Brightline in Florida and the California High-Speed Rail project, alongside dense urban transit networks like the New York City Subway, Chicago "L", and Washington Metro, introduces unique challenges. These tracks demand tighter tolerances, superior surface finishes, and faster execution times to accommodate limited maintenance windows. Consequently, Chinese manufacturers are tailoring their R&D output to deliver high-precision grinding machines, self-contained crucibles, and customized sand molds that fit standard US rail profiles like 136RE, 115RE, and 141RE crane rails.

Embracing technological innovations to meet safety and efficiency goals in North America.
The railway maintenance welding sector in the United States is undergoing significant transformations driven by regulatory updates, safety initiatives, and technological advancements. Key industry trends include:
Heavy-Haul Freight Corridors: On corridors transporting coal, grain, and intermodal containers, welds must withstand millions of gross tons (MGT) annually. Our high-purity thermit powder ensures a metallurgical structure free from porosity and inclusions, preventing premature joint failure.
Urban Subway and Light Rail Systems: Operating in tight tunnels with sharp curves, transit tracks experience rapid lateral wear. Maintenance crews utilize our profile rail grinding machines to restore the exact transverse profile of the rail head, reducing noise, vibration, and wheel-rail wear in metropolitan areas like Boston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
Marine Terminals and Seaports: Crane rails at major ports (e.g., Port of Houston, Port of Savannah) support massive ship-to-shore gantry cranes. These rails require specialized wide-gap thermit welding and heavy-duty mold clamps to handle the thick web and wide base of crane rail profiles.
Developing cutting-edge solutions tailored to global and domestic rail infrastructures.
RMTS have a highly skilled R&D team that works tirelessly to ensure that we produce thermit welding materials that meet the specific needs of each type of rail.
In addition to its strong R&D capabilities, RMTS actively participates in railway projects across China and abroad. The company collaborates with railway authorities, construction companies, and maintenance organizations to provide its expertise and materials for various projects.

RMTS is a passionate and progressive aluminothermic welding manufacturing company.
Aluminum thermite welding, also known as aluminothermic welding or thermit welding, is a specialized welding technique that utilizes a chemical reaction to generate intense heat for joining aluminum components. Originally patented in the late 19th century, it has evolved into the standard global method for creating continuous welded rail (CWR).
Preparation: Step 1. Ensure the rail ends to be welded are clean, free from rust, and properly aligned. The gap size (space between two rails to be welded) shall be 26±2mm. Preheating must be conducted within exact temperature boundaries to guarantee proper fusion of the molten steel with the parent rail.
Thermit welding materials will be failed with water. All welding materials should be kept away from any moisture in storage, as well as in the welding process. Moisture introduction can lead to steam pockets, porosity, and low weld integrity, posing severe safety risks on heavy-haul tracks.
Thermit welding, also known as aluminothermic welding, requires careful handling and storage of its materials to ensure safety and optimal performance. Consumables must be stored in dry, well-ventilated warehouses, preferably on pallets off the ground, to prevent the absorption of ambient humidity.
Offer a wide range of thermit welding materials, such as welding kits, sand mould, one shot crucible/long life crucible, luting sand, ignitor, ensuring consistent quality and reliable performance. We tailor our formulas to match specific geographic climates and rail chemical compositions across North America.
We provide comprehensive technical documentation, video guides, and on-site training for US track maintenance crews. Our goal is to ensure every welder is certified and fully understands the nuances of alignment, clamp adjustments, and profile grinding to achieve zero-defect welds.
